They can’t eat out on tax payers’ dollars or spend more than $200/month (unless they happen to get $200+, which is highly unlikely). They can only use food stamps at stores with more than 1/3 inventory of food and can only be spent on edible items/beverages. There’s also a list of exclusions.
Also, anyone that gets food stamps has to be under the poverty line and I can guarantee you nobody without kids is getting $200 a month. They can’t spend it if they don’t get it. There’s also a max cap so they can’t save them for a rainy day either.
Would you prefer people starve to death? Honestly are you more concerned about the chunk of money you pay in taxes over actual lives? If you’re really concerned about where your hard earned tax money is going, do you play an active part of your community — do you know what your state spends its taxes on?
What about everyone that just lost their job during/due to the pandemic we’re in? Do they suddenly not deserve to eat 3 meals a day? Did you see where the lines for food banks are literally hours long?
But I also never said they should be getting enough to have steak every night. I said its none of our personal business what they spend their food stamp money on. If someone wants to spend it on expensive food, who are we to tell them what they can and can’t buy to eat? Especially when its not breaking any rules — In the official SNAP booklet, it acknowledges that they are allowed to purchase more expensive foods if they wish.
Anyway, thank you for reading and engaging.
