There is a difference between not agreeing and ensuring harmful views don’t reach the masses.

You asked for evidence and I was explaining that the article wasn’t up anymore and I wasn’t sure if you could grab his response anymore. Like I said before, James isn’t going off for no reason. Did I say he was completely right in every move he’s made about this? No.

I also wasn’t speaking about gay conversion therapy, but I’m well aware of what tremendous, traumatic damage it can cause. I was speaking about what the article talked about- which was raising children not to be homophobic.

The piece was homophobic and harmful at the end of the day. I haven’t called Dr. Mehmet out of his name. I haven’t called him homophobic or anti-LGBTQ. What he said looked and felt like it was supporting the bigotry that had taken place at the time that he said it. So much happened between when things exploded and now- and I’m not bothering to try to keep up with it.

I’ve written for Illumination before, and so has my girlfriend NaNa’sworld. We’re both tagged in the pieces highlighting LGBTQIA Illumination writers that got published today. I know the publication has a full, diverse team of editors and writers — which is why I never called him out of his name or claimed the publication was homophobic itself.

James is a passionate person. He’s dedicated a big chunk of his life to activism. He saw a terribly harmful article and wasn’t pleased with the immediate action taken. He speaks for himself as I speak for myself.

I’m satisfied with the article being removed along with the writer. I’ve never said a bad word about Dr. Mehmet as a person.
