I struggle with my chopsticks, but I keep at it. A fork rests on a napkin in front of me, but my stubbornness won’t let me grab it. A soft giggle slices through my focus.

I look up to see my girl trying not to laugh. She quickly tears away from my gaze.

“What?” I ask.

She smiles and gives me a shrug. “I just can’t believe we’re doing this.”

“I can’t believe the kitchen table didn’t get delivered today.” I stab one of my chopsticks into a piece of beef and slip it into my mouth.

“My butt is gonna be so sore,” she admits.

A folded, red tablecloth rests between us on the floor. I pour her another glass of our fancy, non-alcoholic bubbly. “Mine too.”

The flames from the candles on the counter flicker against the walls in the dim kitchen.

“I love you.” The words slip off my tongue.

She gives me a bright smile. “I love you too. Why else would I be on this floor eating Chinese food with you?”
