Jacob, do you write?

By this I mean: my parents' views, influenced by the then-larger culture--itself influenced heavily by norms established and maintained by organized religion--on sexuality, gender, etc. are so extraordinarily normative (i.e. they would fit right in in any anti-LGBTQ church) that the message I received as a child was the same one my less fortunate church-going queer peers received: that I was not acceptable as I was, that I was disgusting, that I was destined for a terrible life if I "chose" to be myself, that I was a danger to children, that I was sick or in a twisted phase, that I should be hidden away, that I was embarrassing to be seen in public with, that my identity could be by no means and under no circumstances validated. Etcetera.
I want to be clear that I do understand that there are churches which are open, church-goers who…
