I think it depends on which genre the game is. It’s still really bad in the COD and first person shooter communities as well as the sports games communities. It depends on the people really. I’ve had really good experiences with other gamers as well as horrible experiences.
It is slowly getting better though. Women get a lot of hate in gaming community too, which makes no sense at all. However, now there are Female Pro Leagues and other events that are centered around welcoming women in the gaming community. We don’t have a lot of those for LGBTQ members yet, but hopefully we will.
As I mentioned in the piece, the streamer that I linked has created a pretty accepting community in her bubble. Whenever trolls come in spewing hate speech, a whole army of people rush to her defense. She’s all about positivity and welcoming everyone to feel at home in her stream. It’s amazing to witness.
