Dear Bigots

Note: This is a response to an extremely bigoted comment left on a piece penned by James Finn. This might sound more like a rant, and I apologize. I needed to write this out to free my mind.

You’re using your extremely inaccurate statistics to paint the picture you have of black people in your mind- which is also inaccurate. While African Americans do make up 12.6% of the United States population, they do not get “44%” of welfare. The Welfare programs have a extremely long process which includes a variety of hoops to jump through.

Just over 40 percent of SNAP recipients are white. Another 25.7 percent are black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American — Department of Agriculture

So….how is it that black people get 44% of welfare? I’ll let you ponder on that a moment.

Black women are the leading group when it comes to college graduation as of 2016.

They are also consistently creating successful black owned businesses. Would you like to congratulate them on their success? I doubt you do, but they’ll continue to be successful with or without your support.

African-American businesses have grown at an exponential rate in the 21st Century. According to the United States Black Chambers, Inc., in 2012 there were 1.9 million Black businesses. In Fall of 2015, there were over 2.6 million. Black women tend to start more businesses on average, according to the data.–usblackchamber.org

Let’s visit Black–owned business revenue, shall we?

The first Top 100 had total revenues of $473.4 million. The 2017 Top 100 produced total revenues of $27. 5 billion. List leaders: Privately-held IT powerhouse World Wide Technology, with an electrifying $9.3 billion in revenues, and workforce solutions juggernaut The Act-1 Group, which generated a whopping $2.8 billion in revenues. — Black Enterprise

Have you been to any part of Africa? No? Alright then–so I don’t think you’re really qualified to talk about how they live. One documentary does not represent a whole continent of people. There’s lots of documentaries about white people and their lack of morals, but I don’t let those define my judgements.

I know bigots like you love to think that Africa is this big piece of land where people only starve to death or die a slow death from disease. Unfortunately for you, that is not the case.

Africa is home to over 1 billion people who speak over 1,500 different languages. One in every four of the world’s language are spoken only in Africa.

Africa is made up of many different cultures; from Black Africans to the Arab peoples of North Africa, and White Africans, descended from the generations of European settlers that arrived, from the Netherlands, Great Britain and Germany.

Africa has approximately 30 percent of the earth’s remaining mineral resources. South Africa’s total mineral reserves alone is estimated to be worth $2.5 trillion. The continent has the largest reserves of precious metals with over 40 percent of the planet’s gold reserves, over 60 percent of the cobalt, and 90 percent of the platinum reserves. — africa-facts.org

If Africa is just some poor, cannibalistic continent — why is Africa China’s top trade partner?

China is Africa’s top trade partner with Sino-African trade volumes now nearing $200 billion per year.

China’s direct investment in Africa exceeds $50 billion. Just look at the “Forum on China Africa Cooperation”. — National Geographic

It is true that extreme poverty drowns almost half of Sub–sahara Africa’s population. That documentary you’re clinging to might have held some truth in it. But what kind of person uses someone else’s tragic situation to try to prove a point? Oh–that’s right–a BIGOT. A racist, ignorant, shallow–minded person who regularly dehumanizes other humans to make themselves feel superior.

If you’re so superior, why are you wasting your time pointing fingers at broad group of people. I can assure you that African Americans come from all walks of life just like anyone else. Some black people do commit crimes, but not all of them. Just like some white people and other races commit crimes as well. Why is it that you feel so comfortable blaming a whole race of people for a statistic that counts all races? It’s like when you say All Lives Matter, but don’t bat an eye at the thousands of children being ripped from their parents at the border.

There are some black people on Welfare in Detroit I’m sure. I’m also sure that there are white people on Welfare in Detroit as well. I’m sure there are white people in Detroit commit crimes too. You blaming an entire race in a city that’s a melting pot of all races (just like the rest of the United States) just proves that you’re racist.

Coldest regards,
B
