A Semi-Stolen Ship, New Friends, and an Evil Corporation Out to Destroy the Whole Colony.
Outer Worlds First Impressions
I am the new captain of The Unreliable, a beautifully beat-up space ship in Halcyon Colony.
How did I manage such a thing? By loading up Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds and letting the game’s story lead me into a new world. When this game first came out, I only watched a little bit of gameplay. The first thing that came to my mind was, “This looks kind of like Fallout.”
If you’ve played any Fallout game, you can’t help but notice the similarities, which isn’t a bad thing at all. It also makes sense knowing that Obsidian developed Fallout 3.
I will admit that I did read through a beginner’s guide article because I wanted some input on where to put my first skill points. I usually like to go in blind at first, but I’m glad I skimmed an article before hopping into actual gameplay.
My first impression of the story is that it's good so far.
However, they didn’t pull any punches in the first big mission. I had to make a big decision before I’d gotten through my first hour of playing. I don’t want to rush and call it great only to be disappointed…
