Preseason, Game 1
Xavier Young’s first successful throw comes on a 3rd and 14 play.
He slings it to fellow rookie, tight end Tyler Hockenson for 29 yards after taking a brutal sack on the play before.
However, the young quarterback can’t get into the endzone and the Lions settle for a field goal to go up 3–0. There are a lot of questions surrounding this Detroit team as they begin a new season.
They finished the 2018–2019 season with an unimpressive record of 6–10. After making some big drafts and working hard all off-season, they’re ready to wipe the past from fans’ minds.
The Lion’s defense blocks a 52-yard field goal to keep the lead. Fans jump to their feet in Ford Stadium in an uproar of excitement and surprise. The rookie quarterback marches back on the field with another chance to show what he can do.
He hits Marvin Jones Jr. with a picture-perfect pass right through the Patriot’s defense, wasting no time earning a first down and ending the first quarter. NFL veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford steps in and leads the Lions to their first touchdown of the game.
Patriots continue to have no answer for the Lion’s defense. Stafford wastes no time flinging the rock downfield for another Detroit touchdown. Travis Fulgham earns a 50 yard TD…
